Which portals require PDFs under 50KB?
50KB limits appear on older state government portals and some municipal corporation forms that were built before modern browser tech. These portals almost always expect a single-page scanned document. If the portal is asking for a PDF under 50KB, it's expecting a single certificate or ID card page — not a multi-page document.
| Scenario | PDF Limit | Best Approach |
|---|---|---|
| State PSC — caste certificate (1 page) | ≤ 50KB | ✓ Achievable |
| Municipal portal — address proof (1 page) | ≤ 50KB | ✓ Achievable |
| Multi-page marksheet | ≤ 50KB | Split to 1 page first |
| Colour ID card (front only) | ≤ 50KB | ✓ Usually achievable |
| Photo-heavy presentation | ≤ 50KB | Not recommended |

Tips for reaching 50KB
Use a single page only. Multi-page PDFs can't reliably hit 50KB — use our Split PDF tool to extract the one required page before compressing. Grayscale originals compress better than colour scans. Portrait orientation is more efficient than landscape for certificate-style documents. If the compressed file is still above 50KB, the source PDF may have low-quality or complex graphics on the page.
How to compress a PDF to 50KB (3 steps)
If your PDF has multiple pages, first use our Split PDF tool to extract just the one required certificate page. Then drop the single-page PDF into the tool above.
The target is pre-set to 50KB. Click Compress PDF to 50KB. This applies maximum compression — very low DPI image rendering — to hit the target.
Download and upload to your state or municipal portal. If your portal still shows an error, try the 100KB version — some portals display the wrong limit.
Frequently asked questions
Is 50KB enough to keep the document readable?
For a single-page text-based certificate (caste, income, domicile) — yes, the official name, date, and seal remain readable. For colour ID cards with photos, the image will look compressed but all text remains clear. For scanned photos or image-heavy pages, 50KB will be quite low quality — consider whether a higher limit (100KB) is actually required.
My PDF won't go below 80KB even with maximum compression?
Some PDFs have embedded high-complexity vector graphics, coloured stamps, or multiple embedded images that can't compress below ~70–80KB per page. Try converting the PDF page to a JPG image first (use our PDF to Images tool), then convert that JPG back to PDF — images-only PDFs often compress further than native mixed-content PDFs.
Can I compress an Aadhaar PDF to 50KB?
A single-side Aadhaar page (front or back only) can usually be compressed to under 50KB. The full 2-page Aadhaar PDF is harder — split to one page first. At 50KB, the name, DOB, address, and Aadhaar number remain readable, but the QR code may not be machine-scannable at this compression level.
