Compress Photo for JEE Application — 80KB, 200×230px

JEE Main and JEE Advanced both use the NTA portal, which strictly enforces photo limits: JPEG only, 200×230 pixels, under 80KB. One wrong upload and you'll get a rejection notice before the exam. Fix it in 10 seconds here.

Official JEE photo requirements (NTA portal)

JEE Main is conducted by NTA (National Testing Agency) and uses the same portal as NEET, CUET, and other NTA exams. The photo requirements are enforced at the upload step — your application will be flagged if the file doesn't meet these specs.

Note: there is a minimum size of 10KB. Compressing too aggressively (to 5KB) will also trigger a rejection. Our tool targets 80KB which comfortably stays within the 10–80KB valid range.

How to compress your JEE photo (3 steps)

  1. Take a recent passport-size photo with a plain white or off-white background. Your face should be clearly visible, eyes open. Avoid selfies — use a proper studio photo or a camera with good lighting.

  2. Upload using Choose File or drag and drop. The tool is pre-set to resize to 200×230px and compress under 80KB in JPEG format. Click Compress.

  3. Preview the result. If it looks good, click Download. Upload the downloaded file to the NTA JEE portal.

Common reasons NTA rejects your JEE photo

Rejection ReasonFix
File too large (over 80KB)Use this tool — it targets exactly 80KB
Wrong format (PNG, WebP, HEIC)This tool outputs JPEG automatically
Wrong dimensions (not 200×230)Tool resizes to 200×230px before compressing
Dark or coloured backgroundReshoot with white background — can't fix in tool
File too small (under 10KB)80KB target keeps you safely above 10KB minimum
Photo too old (more than 6 months)Use a recent photo — portal may ask for date

Frequently asked questions

What happens if my JEE photo is over 80KB?

The NTA portal will display an error and prevent you from proceeding to the next step. You'll need to compress the photo and re-upload. Use this tool to get it under 80KB before you start filling out the form — saves time during the actual application window which can be slow/congested.

Can I use the same photo for JEE Main and JEE Advanced?

Yes. Both use identical photo requirements (200×230px, 10–80KB, JPEG). Compress once using this tool and save the file — you can upload the same compressed photo to both application portals.

Does the JEE portal accept PNG photos?

No. The NTA portal specifically requires JPEG format and will reject PNG, WebP, or HEIC files. This tool automatically converts your photo to JPEG while compressing, so you don't need to convert separately.

Is the same photo used for the JEE admit card?

Yes — the photo you upload during registration is printed on the JEE admit card and is used for identity verification at the exam centre. Use a clear, recent passport-style photo with a white background.
