General tips for government exam photos
White or light background only. All Indian government portals require a white or very light plain background. Avoid coloured walls, patterns, or gradients. Some portals like UPSC explicitly state "white background."
Recent photo, formal attire. Most portals require photos taken within 6 months. Wear formal or semi-formal clothing. No caps, sunglasses, or heavy jewellery. Face should be clearly visible and centred.
JPEG format only. All Indian government portals require JPEG/JPG. PNG and WebP are almost universally rejected. Upload your photo in any format — the tools above convert to JPEG automatically.
Check minimum AND maximum size. Portals like UPSC, RRB, and SSC set both a minimum (e.g., 20KB) and maximum (e.g., 200KB). A photo that is too small is rejected just like one that is too large.
