When do you need a 30KB image?
While 20KB is the standard for Railway and IBPS portals, UPSC and NTA (National Testing Agency) use a slightly higher 30KB limit for signature uploads. State PSC portals in Maharashtra, Rajasthan, and Tamil Nadu also commonly set 30KB as the maximum for scanned signatures. Some admission portals for central universities additionally cap photos at 30KB for passport-size images.
30KB requirements across major portals
| Portal | Signature Limit | Photo Limit | Format |
|---|---|---|---|
| UPSC OTR / DAF | ≤ 30KB | ≤ 50KB | JPEG |
| NTA (NEET / JEE) | ≤ 30KB | ≤ 200KB | JPEG |
| MPSC Maharashtra | ≤ 30KB | ≤ 50KB | JPEG |
| RPSC Rajasthan | ≤ 30KB | ≤ 50KB | JPEG |
| TNPSC Tamil Nadu | ≤ 30KB | ≤ 40KB | JPEG |
| KPSC Karnataka | ≤ 30KB | ≤ 50KB | JPEG |
| Central universities | ≤ 30KB | ≤ 30KB | JPEG |

How to compress to 30KB in 3 steps
Scan your signature or click a photo on white background. Crop to remove excess whitespace. Upload via Choose File or drag and drop.
The target is pre-set to 30KB. Click Compress. The tool automatically adjusts quality — you don't need to touch any slider.
Download the compressed file and upload directly to UPSC OTR, NTA, or your state portal.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is there a difference between compressing to 20KB vs 30KB quality-wise?
Yes — at 30KB you get about 50% more data than at 20KB, which means noticeably better quality for photos (less JPEG blocking) and virtually identical quality for signatures (which are simple high-contrast images). If your portal allows 30KB, always prefer it over 20KB for photos.
UPSC DAF says "between 3KB and 30KB" for signature — will this work?
Yes. Our tool targets just under 30KB. A typical scanned signature compressed to 30KB will be well above the 3KB minimum. You will be in the valid range. Always preview the result before uploading to confirm the signature is clear.
Can I use this for both photos and signatures?
Yes. At 30KB, a 200×230px face photo will look reasonably good. For the UPSC photo (which allows up to 50KB), you might prefer using our 50KB compressor to maximise quality. But for signatures, 30KB is more than sufficient.
